#8. The Cuban Missile Crisis 14th - 18th Oct 1962
A horrific Nuclear War between the Soviet Union and the USA never came closer than on one October weekend in 1962. A stand-off between the Superpowers over the placement of nuclear missiles on the island of Cuba left the future of the planet as we know it in the balance.The Soviets were reacting to missiles being placed in Turkey within striking distance of Moscow. US president John F Kennedy and soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev played out probably the most intense diplomatic standoff the world has ever seen.
